A poem inspired by the senseless death of New York State Trooper, Joseph Longobardo. Trooper Longobardo, age 32, was wounded Thursday night and succumbed to his injuries, today. May God be with his wife, family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

A cloud of sorrow formed today
Filled with our loss and pain
When suddenly, the weight gave way
To pour grief-ridden rain
This shower fell into the sea
And joined with tears we cried
Because the man we longed to be
So senselessly had died.

A true defender of the law
Bound to protect and serve
His duty to never withdraw
From honor or his nerve
Our world was safer in his light
But when the day was nigh
The Lord deemed that the time was right
For him to say goodbye.

A cloud of sorrow formed today
Filled with our loss and pain
But while the weight had given way
To our grief-ridden rain
We know an angel found his place
Upon the golden stairs
Where he shall be amid God’s grace
And always in our prayers.

A poignant title, and an equally poignant tribute to a fallen hero, done in the ever steady and inimitable writing style of the poet.

A beautiful tribute. It is strange that we are quick to dwell on terrorists so much and yet not understand that every useless act of violence at home or abroad is nothing more than the same. May God have Mercy on us all. Great write.

Very touching, precious tribute to one of our worlds heroes. I especially loved the line "A cloud of sorrow formed today, filled with our loss and pain."

Great tribute. There are many corageous persons in this world, recognised for other things than for doing their duty. Victor
