the emotions they run deep
and are hard to define
they tear at my soul
these fears of mine
i struggle to understand
the pain that i feel
i canít seem to grasp them
but they are so real

they stem from a past
that is filled with years
of never ending worry
and unshed tears
of longing for a future
that was said to be true
waiting and waiting for the dream
to come through

living on eggshells
waiting for the time
when one small sound
could start a whine
exploding emotions
would then ignite
then suddenly without warning
a lonely night

words thrown around
with deadly ease
dripping with its own
hateful disease
piercing my heart
and tearing my soul
still loving and protecting you
my goal

years they pass
and time moves on
the past is now
forever gone
nothing can be changed
from way back when
but memories are alive
iím once again ten

a middle aged woman now
looking at my life suddenly somehow
it seems to have decided
that it was time
to visit all of these memories
of mine

bring them back
one by one
put them under a microscope
under the searing sun
burn away the haze
bring out the pain
until i can feel it
over and over again

finally allowing myself
to feel
to cry the tears
that are so old and real
releasing perhaps the old wounds
to be free
time now to begin to
understand me
