A fear, a dread, a nightmare grim
Alone among the mists
I dwell
My heart pounds with an
Echoed beat
The air breaths clotted
Gasps
I run, I run with
Leaden feet
I can’t escape this fear
Smothered in soft
Cotton sheets
My eyes begin to tear
I wish I were invisible
Or maybe dead I fear
Then troubles couldn’t
Touch this mind
That echoes through
The years
A sigh, more tears
With nightmares rude
Accusing moral lassitude
That stings like wasps
Upon my heart
A friendless soul
Among the stars
I stumble into dusky days
Where sleep brings little
Rest relief
Where quiet brings
Such sorrow deep
And all the fields of
Friendly ties
Are far away and gone
And visitors are only
Living in my head.
For dreams to come
That I don’t dread
I listen
Waiting for the words
Of friendly voices heard.
I have small hope
Someday for life
To be held tight
Within my hands of strife.
The nightmares grim
Sure wear me thin
And once again
I dread the sin
Of lonely melodies

I like this one -- it taps into the emotions of a blacker mind. Thank you for signing the guestbook at diary-x and I am glad you were not disappointed by what saw there. Keep up the powerful imagry. I have a few on here as well -- the one that is a fav of the readers is the 9/11 epic "Black September."
