A POEM OF FORGETFULNESS

I forget vividly, when I forget.

If it was a word, I dismember it, letter by letter
more and more lucid and in bold, until of it
nothing remains, except never having been
actually written.

If it was a letter, I dismember it, name by name
less and less felt in the lucidity of the bold
until of it nothing remains; not even
in vague symbol, what could have been
actually an initial.

And if it was a beginning, I dismember it;
until of it nothing remains, but, element by element
less and less coherent and thus, more and more lucid
the wholeness of never having been the actual beginning
of anything (word, letter, or name) except of this
vivid forgetfulness:

In bold, clear: THE END

As hosts and editors of OneLight*® Authors & Creations, Joseph and I wish to thank you all for the warm welcome offered to our dear friend and fellow poet Jorge Vicente, from Portugal. He is delighted and deeply grateful for your kind comments, and we are thrilled for him – his humility is as great as his poetry is magnificent!

Jorge has just let us know that he has joined Authors Den, and is now organizing his space here, so, very soon, we will all be able to enjoy his masterful poetry more regularly, in his own den!

Again, thank you, from the heart!

Love,

Alexandra* & Joseph* ~ OneLight*®

Excellent poem -- a bit too close to home these days. I joke about my memory failing me! I enjoyed this immensely!

Delightfully introspective Alexandra.

But "the end" has piqued in me a beginning and I offer you in retort a poem from one of your fluid Portuguese contemporaries ...

Sophia De Mello Breyner Andresen

"Descobrimento"

Um oceano de músculos verdes
Um ídolo de muitos braços como um polvo
Caos incorruptível que irrompe
E tumulto ordenado
Bailarino contorcido
Em redor dos navios esticados

Atravessamos fileiras de cavalos
Que sacudiam as crinas nos alísios

O mar tornou-se de repente muito novo e muito antigo
Para mostrar as praias
E um povo
De homens recém-criados ainda cor de barro
Ainda nus ainda deslumbrados

Light and Wisdom ...

Alexandra,

I'm glad to read that Jorge is joining our family; with you and Joseph bringing him in, the Den will be a richer place.

And this poem is incredible. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Xuxa,

The opening line is brilliant ... to remember vividly is one thing, to forget vividly is a whole new realm worth exploring. I love the continuity of lines and thought in this piece. The ending is a surprise (or maybe not) ... it seems to wrap everything up where the beginning becomes the ending, the ending becomes the beginning and the lines in between are like a ship that carries the reader from one to the other.

A standing ovation to you and your muse,
Joseph*
