Remember the days when this time of year was the only time of year that we were worried about putting on weight? All of the holiday dinners, and other goodies, were sure to add a few pounds that we'd (of course) lose by Spring...Well, 'tis the season again! And, here's a piece that I wrote this summer--that applies now--after all, the principle is the same! Seems that 'gaining' is no longer seasonal...In any case, for those of you who are wondering, I am happily a size 8, for now at least...LOL! Enjoy...

I wanted to eat,
At a big barbeque;
Some ribs and some chicken
And onion rings too.

But I knew all too well,
The price I would pay,
If I didn’t think,
Before this big day.

So breakfast I skipped,
And lunch I trimmed back,
To open my stomach,
For barbeque’s fat.

I hoped it would mean,
Weight loss for sure.
Less food stuffed in,
Should keep me demure.

But lo and behold
What did I find?
My wonderful feast,
Left crisis behind.

Pants that don’t close;
The button’s too tight.
Spandex won’t work;
Fat won’t flow right--

I change into shorts
And zip up, then sigh…
Look down with a gasp
They’re ripped 'round my thighs!

I give up, I tried
To make it all work
Time for big dresses--
To put down the fork.

Until I can get
This ole 'que to pass
I’ll fill up on SlimFast
And shoot lots of gas!

I am also on the roller coaster of weight, it goes up and down five pounds frequently. I have tired to learn to eat healthy and manage my diet in an honest manner, and have done quite well during the past six years. I have found that journaling helps me manage my diet better than anything....loved your poem and the humor...that slim fast is some heavy duty a teacher I have found I can't handle the stuff...not enough bathroom breaks! Again, this was a great write, great humor, afterall if we can't find humor in aging the aging process..we're in trouble.

Excellent poem about the enemy, Wendi! I'm proud to say I've lost over 300 pounds ... but it's the same 5 pounds over and over and over! LOL
Excellent poem -- made me laugh!
