A poem written to honor the memory of my friend.

For Shortie

Fly high! Beyond the clouds, my friend
Glide softly on the breeze
You were faithful, until the end
Your spirit aimed to please
You brought much joy into my heart
During your earthen years
And though, we are e’ermore apart
My eyes shall not know tears.

I still recall your precious face
When your worries were braved
And how you trudged ahead in grace
Each time you misbehaved
You shared the meaning of true love
With every soul you met
And though, you are resting above
I shall never forget.

Fly high! Beyond the clouds, my friend
Float freely ‘cross the blue
You were faithful until the end
Claimed your last earthen mew
I know that you have made your way
Where all cats long to be –
The place where mice and redbirds play
And butterflies are free.
