The discovery of a crucified cat in the chapel of his school plunges headmaster Augustus Braithwaite into a battle against forces, and worlds, he previously didn’t know e..
Beside a river gently sleeping
He dreams a dream of Beauty weeping
A kind angelic apparition
Alone in her transparent prison
Though hurt by life, bright is her flare
A gentle soul beyond compare
A being thus shielded is protected
Safe from pain of being rejected
And those whose actions are so cruel
So caution reigns, she's no-ones fool
He feels the pang of love so tempting
Yet out of reach and so tormenting
So full of what he craves so much
Her love he feels yet cannot touch
But deep he knows that he may smother
This fragile creature like no other
And though he longs to sooth and heal
He cannot break the hardened seal
He beats his fists upon against the glass
And curses God for this cruel farce
As if in answer to his prayer
He finds himself in Beauty's lair
And falls into her soft embrace
Warm tears of joy upon his face
In love and laughter they rejoice
But then he hears her gentle voice:
"There are some things love cannot heal
You will awake, this is not real
Here in my realm, I must remain
Outside of it I know the pain
Of far too many heartless fools
I'm sorry but these are the rules
"This cannot be I do regret
But please my love don't cry or fret
In truth we shall not ever part
I'll always live within your heart
And know that I will always care
When you need me I will be there
Just close your eyes and you will see
How truly dear you are to me"
The dawning sun is nearly risen
And as he wakens from his vision
Life's beauty greets his sleepy eye
As colours play across the sky
Cool morning air so crisp and clear
The sounds of birdsong fill his ear
Fresh on his lips the tender kiss
Though far too brief was his great bliss
Beside him still the river flows
And in his soul he truly knows
The touch of Beauty's soft refrain
Will in his heart always remain
