Just short of the throes of winter…

Reaching out are the throes of winter,

Trees have shed their allotment of leaves,

Squirrels are gathering their winter stores,

Birds have insulated their nests,

But I am resilient, only waxing my car,

Just about as usual, just about on par…

Our weather terrible never,

Of the umbilical cord from summer, we sever,

Leaving behind summers memories, we endeavor,

To allow to shut off the summer season with use of a lever…

Cooler temps do attack at night,

After the sun does drop early of light,

We do focus on what does come,

Summer does then give up the ghost,

To winters clutches summer does for now succumb…

Ed Matlack, this is a devine piece of poetry! Your muse surely must be cuddling closer to you. You've described the closure of summer and onset of winter to a T.

Our winter - call that sudden Artic Freeze - is approaching like a thunderhead: today near 80, tomorrow mid 70s, tomorrow night near freezing, Thurs. 40, and Thur. night below freezing! Think someone left the gate open to the north of us :o)

We are in the midst of Autumn here and the trees are still hanging on to half of their leaves, which keeps me from raking...I mean why bother when if I wait for a week or two I can get them all at once??? The nights are getting chilly and the days feel like early spring. I wonder if we will have a mild or heavy winter...only time will answer that question.
Take care,
Sherry

Very nice, Ed ... winter here in New Hampshire is extremely icy and cold. It's much nicer to be inside where it's warm and toasty.

You wax wonderfully poetic here dear bubba Ed.

The whole poem is great, but the last line is sumptuous. You have grown so much as a poet in the last few months. It really is an amazing process to watch happen.

Woof to both of you guys ...

except when it rains
and thats sporadic at best.

more then you fear them
