A Passionate Confession

One broken heart after another;
how much more can I take?
They all claimed to be real,
but every last one was fake.
The kinder you are, the more you suffer-
that seems to be the rule of life.
You give your all, and do your best;
yet, your heart is stabbed with a virtual knife.
When you're a gentleman, you're a square;
when you're a player, you're so unfair.
You just can't seem to win in a love affair;
therefore, many just give up, and become afraid to go there.
Deep behind the smile, rests a deep sea of hurt.
They tell me I'm a sweet guy,
then treat me like dirt.
The substance that I'm made of, prevents any evil intent;
so, with a heart that's broken in a thousand pieces,
I write poetry to vent.
I fight the anger deep within--
I fight the doubt, when people claim to be a friend.
I leave a vacant space, should true love come my way;
and, that shall be a beautiful day.
