I still recall, many years ago,
Every night, my mum would sing,
In that sweet, clear voice that I'll always know,
And she'd never forget one thing -

When my eyelids closed to sleep each night,
She'd never fail to say,
"Don't sleep before you thank the Lord, alright?
You must never forget to pray."

And till date, these few minutes, I set apart
To kneel down in reverence
And there is so much gratitude in my heart
And peace reigns in that silence.

I realise that I have learnt so much
In these moments that I embrace.
The joy I feel is such
That I have no words and I am filled with praise.

And I never forget to thank God for Mum,
For she was always there
To give me the gift of the joy I find
In this little time of prayer.
