Empty Restaurant

Looking gaunt,
looking like
an empty restaurant,
a house whose door
has been ripped from its frame.

No doors,
only windows
to unpry
"under constant care"
when the end " is nearby".

No food
no drink for you.
The world
an empty restaurant.

The nurse commands
you to swallow.

Hey remember the weekends
thrift shopping
in the square
and across the street
that substitute
paradise where
$2.50 would buy
a waffle cone
of vanilla yogurt?
We'd treat
each other there.

And now the nurse
brings you
a dixie cup.
A freakin' dixie cup!
but you refuse.
You're gaunt
youre an empty
restaurant, I'm telling you.

Any fool can see
the restaurant is closed,
permanently.
