A post-holiday reflection

After the Holidays

Once the tree is taken down,
The corks of champagne popped,
Old calendars replaced with new
And caroling has stopped,
Our mundane lives will then resume
With routines re-embraced
Of work and school and other things
That, every day, are faced.

Its common, in the aftermath
Of weeks of joy and cheer,
To feel bereft of positives
That last throughout the year;
If I could grant a single wish
To satisfy each soul,
Id give a fragment of my heart
To make each person whole.
