-recollections of my son's first sailfish

the sea was angry

winds whipped up a salty spray

his sailfish dances

little boy’s sharp eyes

fixed upon cobalt blue speed

across silver waves

ripping line from reel

rod double bent -white knuckles

his proud old man smiles

grabbing spiny snout

bare hand torn -ignoring pain

you have him now, son

rainbow colors shine

iridescent spirit fades

pictures snapped in haste

his freedom restored

hearts pumping hot blood, calming

Godspeed, blue specter!

What a treat this is, Butch, to have the opportunity to share one of your son's firsts and in addition to see it expressed through the watchful and loving eye of his father. Man and nature cast in the perfect medium. What an adventure for both of you and so well crafted in Haiku chain. Someoneonce told me that once I had written a chain, I should pick the one that, to me, said it all.

Just bloody excellent Butch.

Series of six - I am also fond of that application. Something complete about it. You tie into one of those, you often have the fight of a lifetime.
