I got an email the other day
from someone with a phantom addy
who claimed to be familiar
with my posts here on AD
The person stated that
because I work in the
entertainment industry
I was doomed to go to hell
That I knew nothing of art
That I was morally corrupt
That my posts were somehow manipulative
and that I was some sort of minion
who had infested this realm
with the intent of leading others to
the furnace
Wow...OK then
The word “nutcase” sprang to mind
But I was enjoying my first cup of joe
and it’s always a pleasure to watch
a zealot fry their psycho-wires
So I read on
and on…

My mind drifted
from the words of this crazy
to the other day
when some other crazy,
a Christmas-tree farmer,
on vacation from Canada
(must’ve been a good year),
was drinking a lot and loud-talking
at a local haunt of mine
about those “Hollywood types”
I thought to myself…
Wow…another idiot
Yapping his flap
like a hateful John Edwards blogger
With no knowledge whatsoever of
a six hundred billion dollar industry
employing multitudes of good folk
generating more than
two and one-half times
the total gross national output
of Canada with its vast resources
and well more than many other
country’s GNP’s combined
An industry where the white collars
get their hands dirty on a daily basis
Where the blue collars actually have
pride and responsibility and make
important decisions that have as much
impact on the bottom line as those
made at the corporate level
Where everyone’s success is only
measured by their next project
Where people of all cultures
and backgrounds collaborate
and merge their skills to create
Where honest hard-working folks
are able to earn a good living
have health insurance
pay for their houses
and send their kids to college
Granted, not everything churned out
by this giant machine is good
In fact there’s a lot
of products that suck…
That’s why there’s a “Pilot Season” :)

I continued reading the email
It got worse, much…
I checked the senders IP…
Go figure
Curious to know how this nut
got my personal email
I sent the message
to my IT guy to track and ID
(‘ya never know, right ?)
before I sent it to spam
and started my day in the trenches
with my hands already dirty
Before I had even begun

"The Bit Dog Barks. Sounds like a person I know here who yells a lot and can't stay focused enough to be serious.

You do what you do and you're damned good at it too. I'm proud of you and he says I'm damned to Hell also.

Those who scream the loudest about others are usually ignorant of what they are screaming about! Your poem is powerful and well written.

This was definitely a joy to read. I especially liked the last verse...that investigative part. This was quite different, and I truly enjoyed it.

This is a very interesting piece. It does get to you when the attack is personal and they don't know what they are talking about. I took an article and a poem off recently just so I didn't upset one guy. I'll be reading more of your work...JM

I prefer to echo William Shakespeare's famous line, " All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts." If it were not for art, in any form, be it movies, stage, or literature, where would this world be? Dead in its own
stoic complacency. Play on

People never cease to amaze me. You handled this far better than I would have. All I did was read your account of the incident and I'm steaming!

The heavens, we are taught, have always inspired awe, tradition, even salvation. Why? What did our ancestors see there?..
