George Carroll's eagle poem inspired this one. Thanks George.

I Wish…

I wish I were an eagle
Flying high up in the sky
So free, so gracefully gliding
Like the whisper of a breathless sigh.

I wish I were an eagle
In a life less swift and fast
To take a moment to appreciate
Each special day instead of the past.

I wish I were an eagle
Sailing through a summer breeze
Feeling my feathers ruffled softly
Like the tickle of a sneeze.

I wish I were an eagle
Looking down upon the land
Watching people squirm about
Like tiny ants in the sand.

I wish I were an eagle
The national bird of the USA
The symbol of a great nation
That is here to stay

I wish I were an eagle
Displayed on the Great America Seal
That once had “In God we trust”
That I wish to God remained there still.

I wish…

I sure like your style of writing, Jeannette. You take me on such wonderful trips. None so much as your great novel When Justice is Served. Yet my favorite of this piece is this--

"Feeling my feathers ruffled softly
Like the tickle of a sneeze."

Had to stop right then and rub my nose.
Yes, I enjoyed this one.

Your loving friend,
Richard

Very neat work, Jeanette... that twist at the end was wry and acute! A beautiful and airy response to George's poem. I love the feel of transportation and musing that comes with it. TY Kate xx

This is a wonderful write, very patriotic and very spiritually upholding!
Thanks for stopping by my den~

I love this write Jeanette, I too have often thought of being a graceful bird flying high in the sky...I posted a poem a couple of monthes ago titled Wings...expressing my desires about flying...it wouls be nice sometimes to be able to carelessly fly from place to place...I used to dream of flying when I was a little girl...I can remember waking up and thinking...shoot, it was only a dream! Enjoyed this my friend, full of imagery and rich and warm words...
Blessings,

Jeanette,

I love the poem it was beautiful and rich in imagery. The part that got me most was the last verse. I find it funny that all controversy with using God's Name in relation to the country is always debated except in time of peril and tragedy. I like to think them both one and the same. Wonderful write.

Ah, me too, Jeanette! And if those ants down there would ever get their heads outta their (BEEPs), our flying might be in friendly skies. We will keep wishing/hoping/praying/pushing! Good poem!
