Waiting

Mirrors reflect a haggard face
Body withering in disgrace
The eyes grow dim
Regrets flood in
Sorrows tears cascade
Life reduced to shame

Family, friends have all passed on
Memories fade, will soon be gone
Fragile hands crippled in pain
Hold on to what life remains
Confined to a simple room
A fitting end to life consumed

Choice made matter not
If all lead us to this spot
Lonely and so all alone
Waiting just to be called home
Sleep would be a welcome guest
Endless sleep to end this quest

No worse end can we imagine than to spend our last days broken, forgotten and alone.

This is so true and real and I am so pleased you submitted this, society needs to care more for those old folk alone in homes
for the elderly ,I also have written about this subject a coulple of times myself ,it is so sad ,so very very sad.
Best wishes dear Michael.

This touched me to tears! So well written such powerful truth!! What we do today, is what we will be left with , what lives inside our hearts..Joy and light, or pain, one day.. alone..
I pray for those that find themselves living this type of end.

Excellent write!!!!! It's a real problem some must face, but as Robert has said here, keeping a creative and active mind and always feel young does help.

Great write, Michael!!!!!

A fate too common, Michael. I don't have solutions; perhaps Robert the Ace is right.

May all of us retain that imaginative mind...
