like bookends on a soft red couch
my heels upon your hips
your feet upon my chest
I rub your toes and you go away
into a mind of lighter thoughts
lucid I feel my eyelids close
and see a woman in her garden
a ladybug lands upon her braid
and asks about the offering
like a fog between the there and then
and mist upon the now
I walk into a shallow stream
and balance on the pebbles
the ladybug lands upon my wrist
an offering again she does insist
compassion perhaps, I ask her
and endurance was her answer

Oh Debbie, do I love your poetry. First I have to tell you when I saw the title in my e-mail reminder I was amused, remembering the title of my father's favorite book about mountain climbing...grizzly at best. What an about face when I read your first line and you took me to the places my mind loves to if i had slipped immediately into yours and wished desperately I could be so bold as to pen the places my mind so privtley takes me lest I smie and divulge them to the one my feet bookend. I have learned so much from this poem and your style, a direction I need dare to take. I thank you so much for your lesson and for your amazing gift of poetry. I want to put you on my people I have to meet in this lifetime list. Now, I just have to go back and read again and again. YUM!

Fanatastic Write Debi with strong visions and images floating up from the paper as light as the wings of the lady bug you mention.

A full course meal is served on this poetic tray, and "endurance" sings life.
