Obligatory Questions

There is a place for obligatory questions
A concierge or maitre dí
How are you or howís your day
Smiling, not caring my need
Returning that smile I usually lie
Thatís the proper thing to do
They donít really want to know
My question is, do you?

If youíre asking an obligatory question
The answer is, Iím fine.
What do you want me to say?
The question is so benign
You can avoid all the uneasiness
Just say you hope Iím doing well
Iíll thank you for the good wishes
That wouldnít be hard to sell

Are you a friend or an acquaintance
And do you really care
Letís grab a cup, a bite or a drink
And take some time to share
A moment in passing just isnít enough
And Iím guilty of it, too
With a gift at our fingertips
Weíve got some work to do

Relationships come in many forms
Letís find where this one sits
In the puzzle of life there are many pieces
I get excited when each one fits
I treasure each and every friend
So let our words be true
Howís the world treating you today
Suddenly I donít feel so blue

I like this Raelynn and I have to admit there are times when I know when people are trying to make small talk and I may not be in the mood for it, but when I ask a person how they are it is because I really want to know. I love to share a smile and I appreciate all my friends. A wonderful write indeed, Thank you for sharing.

Rose
