O April 2, a bit of Magic arrived

The magic in my life seemed all but lost

The weight of my world seemed to heavy to bear

The happiness I was in pursuit of

As slippery and elusive as the dim memories of youth

But the old mare’s belly was distended

After carrying this foal for the last eleven months

Her feisty head toss, meant to send us away

Made us instead, take shifts for the night

At two AM she was asleep in the straw

At four her head was at her door

As she begged for a treat

Six AM brought the call from my daughter, “He’s here!”

Out in my ‘jammies’ I knelt in the straw

I rubbed dry his little wet body Mare and foal shortly stood

Soon soft suckling noises were the only sounds

Coming from within the depths of the stable

So there in the early dawn of a new spring morn’

A bit of magic was present

In the perfect design of Mother Nature

And for that moment, all was right with the world

Each and every birth is a miracle, as you rightly say, Karen... especially if they take a whole 11 months to arrive! And a privilege to witness, let alone have a hand in. I share your excitement. Somehow, I can never believe WHAT is going to arrive.. it STILL amazes me. You have given us all a treat here as there is just something amazingly stirring about new life coming into our midst. You and Alexandra have been greatly blessed! TY Kate xx

Absolutely Beautiful - both the poem and the new addition. It's amazing how a glimpse of Mother Nature helps us to put things into perspective.

Karen, how wonderful. Just brings happiness and smiles and washes away all the bad and the bleak. Beautiful new horse, natures gift.
