A beautiful sunset at a California beach....

                       A special delight...........

                    Sailboats make ready,
                  the weather is improving.
                  Fresh paint, few repairs,
                      time to get moving.

                        Waters are quiet,
                      peaceful and calm.
                        Time to set sail,
                      come now, get on.

                   A journey we will take,
                    glide along the coast.
Feel the breeze on your face,
time to relax, not to boast.

                       Waves clapping,
along the side of your boat.
                So magical, so mysterious,
                 so smooth staying afloat.

                   Seagulls flying above,
                dolphins leading the way.
Sneakers, shorts take in the sun,
a fun way to enjoy the day.

                    Lean over the side,
run your hands in the sea.
                  Signaling all the fish,
                 to come play with me.

                    Out from the sea,
                   jumps a flying fish.
                This one is too smart,
to wind up on a dish.

                To be among nature,
                 sacred and pristine,
            A special delight to behold,
                by all should be seen.

Very relaxing indeed and so real! Thank you Karen for sharing
and caring. Please tell Robert to keep up the good art work
with his camera, the pictures are so beautiful with your poems.

I enjoyed this poem, especially this: Lean over the side,
run your hands in the sea.
Signaling all the fish,
to come play with me.

It is a poem which reminds me of the carefree days of summer, as I take time to enjoy the sea and all that the sea has to offer! Excellent poem. As usual, your words have touched my heart.

Evocative and so atmospheric, Karen. Can almost feel the movement and energy in this. Reminds me of stanzas I have just read by Emily Dickinson:

Bred as we, among the mountains,
Can the sailor understand
The divine intoxication
Of the first league out from land?

Quite beautiful, thank you. Kate xx

That poem brings back memories from when I was a kid. Back then, Terminal Island, near Long Beach, was one of the best beaches for camping overnight and burning our hides in the sun. Later on, I used to work shift work which gave me many days when I could play in the surf near Belmost Shores.

What a beautiful place.

I love the way you have characterized the invigorating beauty of nature here. There are few things in life I love more than getting in my boat, kayak, or canoe and experiencing the wonder of the ocean, observing the many species of birds and seeing the fish jump. Your words motivate me to make my way down the dock, knock the cobwebs off the boat and hit the high seas for some much needed relaxation and enjoyment. Excellent write!

You write a perfect day. beautiful picture also. Makes me remember when I lived by the shore and would go down just to watch the last bit of sun reflect off the water. On the east coast it's a little different. The sun sets over land and the reflection of the still waters gives it an emeral iridescent glow. Lady J
