We Almost Had It All, Didn't We?

"Perfect love casts out fear"*
Holy Bible*

A Kiss From A Rose
By La Belle Rouge

we almost had it all didn’t we?
the whole world lay at our feet
but our shoes were too tight
and we had to just sit
and watch the world go by

the garden path illuminated
with the light of heaven
beckoned us to hold hands

and run together to smell the roses
planted by the hands of god
and watered by angels’ tears

but we were crippled with fear
and overburdened with guilt

yes, we were cowards, it's true

cowards with blistered feet
that no longer fit into such small shoes

so the roses lived out their season
faded, wilted and died

before we could feel their soft petals
caress our cheeks or inhale
their incomparable fragrance

we almost had it all, didn’t we?
but a miss is as good as a mile...

the mile we couldn’t span
because our shoes were too tight

and our hearts weren’t brave enough
to simply take them off
and run barefoot toward each other

so here’s to us, love
and what should have been

let my memory always be
a kiss from a rose
a light on your sky of gray
a warm touch on your snowy day

This is so beautiful and
something I relate to in my
own way. So hard being so close
yet so far and you have described
this with such beauty and really
left it open for the reader to pull
what they needed from it.
Totally awesome.

La Belle, this is so touching, for too many walk away afraid of what may have been. I loved it.

I'm ALWAYS a barefoot girl and I was hooked on the frustration of those tight shoes from the very first mention, Belle. Yep, feeling starts in the toes and works it way right up, I reckon! :)) Wet, Wet, Wet got it right when they sang of "feeling it in the fingers/toes", as did the songmakers of this Kiss From A Rose - always a favourite of mine. Never say never, La Belle. Patience has her way sometimes! And, when she does, the heavens sing!! Get practisin for the 100 metres, Darlin... Sincere and passionate. And beautiful as always. :)) xx

What could have been - I wonder how many times each of us have said that in our lives. A most thought provoking poem, La Belle.

mmm... i LOVE the feel of this; though sad, it is so perfectly crafted and would make a wonderful song - and there is a song "A Kiss from a Rose," that just plays in my head anyway. Beautifully done! -- Jeff
