My mind can’t forget
The nightmare I lived
This couldn’t be real
I was introduced to hell

I remember asking over and over
If you were really gone
The tragic news he shared
It seemed for me alone

I held you, just this morning
We kissed as we parted ways
You were smiling so wonderfully
I softly whispered, “farewell my love”

NO!!
It can’t be true !
You can’t be gone!
Your not supposed to leave me!

I felt so weak and lifeless
I trembled as I cried
“You’re mistaken!”
“Oh God, you have to be wrong!”

I rushed home to an empty house
Your shoes still lying by your favorite chair
Your plate and glass still on the table
As if you were not completely through

My stomach cramped a thousand pains
Blackness overtook me as I became numb
My heart began to choke the life from me
My head was spinning with denial and grief

I ran to every room screaming your name
I must find you here, safe and sound!
You’re not dead! You’re in the next room!
To comfort me with open arms, asking “what’s so wrong?”

I walked from your grave holding our sons hand
Tears staining our face, clothes and ground
As we parted ways that horrible day
I softly whispered, “farewell my love”
