He took the news with style and grace.
His bright sweet smile never left his face.
Six months or so was all he had,his life was over they told our dad.
He didn't whimper, curse God or cry,When he heard the news that he'd soon die.
He walked out in the bright sunshine and told all who asked that he was fine,he didn't waste one single day and never changed his gentle ways, he laughed, he smiled, and told his jokes, he clung to life and kept his hopes.
We watched him fall and start to fade, his pain increased each passing day but he never gave that fact away.He made his peace with God and man for in his heart he had a plan.
Each small detail he made plans for from the funeral home to the clothes he wore, his life would end with style and grace,no muss or fuss would spoil his race.He knew excatly what he would do to make his passing calm and smooth.
Two years from God was what he needed to make sure his plans would be completed.
We'd never known how strong he was or how deep his faith or how true his love.My mother's future would be secure before he knocked on heaven's door.He placed his trust in God above and kept us protected with joy and love.
Then came the day he said to call,he needed hospice he told us all.He held our mom to calm her fears in the loving place where we all stayed near.He kissed her lips a hundred times and held her hand as he lay dying "My Wife" were the last words Dad had spoken before his earthly chains were broken.
Her face was the last thing that he saw before he answered heavens call.
"I'll wait for you" he'd told our mother,"I'll be right there when you cross over.So don't forget when your times is through,I'm going first to prepare for you.Our love will transcend space and time, through all eternity you'll be mine."
