This poem is dedicated to my old friend Tommy, who died on 10th-June-2007. He was a sailor in the second world war and recieved a commendation from the Admiral of the fleet, for showing initiative while sinking an enemy sub. R.I.P

As the sun went down on your final day
The angels shed some tears
For to find a man like you, old Tom
It could take five hundred years

You're family thought the world of you
Friends loved your quiet ways
Cause' the dignity of a forthright man
Has a strength that never sways

You sailed on dangerous waters then
When you signed up as a lad
And memories stowed inside your heart
Some were good, and some were sad

But you never bragged, or acted smug
Always steadfast on your feet
And how many men get commendations
From an Admiral of the fleet

So a sad farewell, my fine old friend
Cause' your in Gods navy now
And as you sail on golden seas
You'll look down from a starlit sky

GERRY
