This poem is for that lonely person, who keeps on going to church alone, and keeps on hoping that his or her spouse will one day respond to the Lord and join in family worship.
My example, Paul's being freed from prison, is a different view, I know, but the power of the Lord is able in either situation, and who can argue with the premise that the one who remains at home, indiffferent to God, is in a prison of his or her own making?

S A V E   H I M    A   S E A T

Save him a seat
in the church, next to you
Then stand back an' see
what the Lord's gonna do!
Jes' like He answered
the prayer of Ole Paul,
When he was in prison,
an' chained up an' all.

Oh, save him a seat;
       save him a seat!
Keep on a-trustin'
an' save him a seat!
       Save him a seat!
        save him a seat!
Keep on a' prayin'
an' save him a seat!

He wrote to his friends
an' said, "As you all pray,
God will release me --
this could be the day!"
Get a room ready,
an' keep it fer me.
God answers prayers,
an' I'll soon be set free!

Well, Paul knew jest what
he was talkin' about;
He kept trustin' God,
an' had never a doubt.
So you keep on prayin'
an' don't you ferget --
God still answers prayers,
an' He's listenin' yet.

Get that seat ready,
tho' your dear one's away;
One day he'll be free,
an' this could be the day!
The Lord opens prisons
when His younguns call,
An' He'll answer your prayers
like He did for Ole Paul!

Oh, save him a seat;
       save him a seat!
Keep on a trustin'
an' save him a seat!
        Save him a seat;
         save him a seat!
Keep on a' prayin'
an' save him a seat!

(Believe it or not, I have my own
private tune to this, and to me,
it's a folk song.  Sorry I have no
knowledge of music, so I can't
share it with you. (  ;  Lucky you!)

I believe, just as you, Sister, that indifference is a prison.

I stand on this Scripture every day, and declare it over the still lost members - no matter how far removed from the immediate family!

Truly great fare, Connie-Girl!

A scenerio I have witnessed many times over. Churches filled mostly with women and children and a sprinkling of men. Where is the cut off I wonder? Young boys go to church with their mothers, but by teens pull away, interesting.....

Be safe,

You can't imagine my surprise when I opened this poem and began reading! I have been saved for twenty seven years and I my husband has only come to church with me five or six times. He will come to cemetary meetings, and occasionally homecoming...but to a regular Sunday or Wednesday night church service, very few. I do get a bit discouraged occasionally, and it is reminders such as these that waters that seed of faith allowing it to grow and bringing newfound hope! I have stepped out on faith and set aside two dresser drawers full of church clothes, he knows about them and just remains quiet. My husband is a good husband, he believes in the Lord and always encourages me to go to church, and worries if I should miss...he just needs to make his mind up! So my dear friend, I shall remember tomorrow night to reserve him a seat, and just claim it! A wonderful write, really what I needed tonight! Thank you so very much, you're a special lady!
