Photograph of Lucky nine weeks old.

I am sitting here watching my puppies play
They seem as if they are mine and mine alone
Just nine weeks ago their mother died, gone
That night I sat crying as I fed three babies

Every hour and a half they would awake
I wondered do they remember her, their mom
She was beautiful and feisty I loved her spunk
Amazing intellect I used to think watching her

The first time I let the pups out of their box
They unknowing or was it? Ran to my room
All three lay in the last spot their mother was
She always stayed in the same place by the bed

They knew, they know her bed, comfort is there
One day little Lucky was playing and barking
I came in the room and watched her bark wildly
At my desk where their mothers ashes sit in rest

I wonder do they know?

Theresa, yes, they know...our pets are incredibly intelligent and knowing...and your observations and photo and poem are wonderful. Those three pups are lucky to have you.

Thank you

Teri;
Your write is a wonderful piece, as usual for you when you speak from the heart. Lucky is precious! She as well as her sibling know, I'm sure. I am forwarding this to Josh as well. Love and hugs Sherry

Your touch of your poetry is like your smile, it has the Artmosphere that paints your spirit in anything you do.

Do me a favor repost the title in the middle section the adds are distracting.

They know much more than we (supposedly intelligent) humans give them credit for. Powerfully poignant lines, here, Theresa, again, I'm sorry for your loss. Mom lives on in her babies. :)

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

And Lucky (all the babies) are Lucky Pups to have you in their life. That pic is too cute!! :)

I believe they know much more than we often give them credit for. Some of my cats often curl up next to urns containing the ashes of their deceased friends, and I truly believe they know, and that they truly miss them.

And Lucky is a gorgeous pup.

Lucky is absolutely adorable! I am happy to hear they are doing just fine with your help, love and compassion. Of course they know, they know their mother's scent and perhaps she left a little of her spirit behind to love, guide and protect her babies. Such a heartfelt write.....

Be safe,
Karen
