Suffer in silence, knowing the pains of harsh reality that have blown down around you, yet seek to spare the innocent your heavy burden.

It seems that everything
is coming down around me,
and nothing stops
the burning of my eyes,
or the harsh sting
of the wind-blown jack fir
as it tumbles down upon my head.

The smack and the crack
of a splintering timber,
forced to the ground
by nature's breath.
I stand beneath the behemoth trunk
and limbs of softwood that tumble
and remind me of pains of the heart.

Life's not easy for me,
as I see our children
reeling with pain.
Yet death never comes here,
and that pleases me so.
For life may be pain,
but better we go on
and make others devoid of misery
if we cannot purge it from ourselves.

Life never tastes bitter
to a fallen man.
And the trees still make sounds
even though no one's around,
because there's always air
in which to resonate.

Only man could be so arrogant to believe
sound only exists when he can hear.
Just as feelings only exist
if he can feel.
Thatís why children don't understand.
They've never felt the pain.
So is it wrong I protect them now?
Should I even give a damn?

Those who don't know pain,
don't know they're not feeling it.
Appreciate the things
youíll never understand.
Best to you leave them be
rather than believe.

Pain - many times in my life I didn't realize the scope of my pain. It was only upon reflection that I saw how much I tried to shield others from my pain - didn't want them worrying about me.
I know I made the right decision at the time, but looking back my pain might have been lightened by sharing the load.
Your poem (I believe) speaks to 'been there, done that.'
I hope your pain is healed,
