Let no sadness typify,
The times we’ve had,
Just you and I;
No melancholy eyes to dry,
No downhearted lullabies.

The miles stretch far
Between our homes,
And distance can make
You feel all alone,
So careful, girls,
You must always be,
To forever protect your peaceful
Serenity.

When I think of you
Across the miles,
I want to be reminded
Of your winning smiles ,
For joy in your hearts,
Has been my perpetual quest,
And to achieve that goal,
I’ve always done my best.

Now that you are older,
You’ll see the decades fly,
And you have children of your own,
And their young eyes to dry.
Now when you think of me
And the joy that we’ve had,
Smile for just a moment,
As you remember your Dad.
