A Beautiful Doily – Almost!
By Kathy Armijo

The doily that I have in mind,
Is a pattern of my own design.
The piece will be sooo fine.

Shall I make it with thread or yarn?
Will it be square, oval, round or some other shape?
hat color should I choose?

I choose a ball of  thread, already wound up tight.
I’m ready to begin to crochet
to my heart’s delight.

Today, I choose to make a doily,
that is round
in shades of rose, to brighten up my day.

The piece begins to take its shape.
How I long for a coffee break.
This is a big mistake.

The cat sees the thread.
Oh, boy!
A new toy.

With his paws, he snatches the thread,
and pulls it throughout the house.
He scurries away after dropping it on the bed.

Then he hears me yell.  “Toby, you blasted cat!”
He runs and hides in the next room.
Don’t think he’ll be coming out soon.

The thread is tied in knots.
The doily is a fraction of what it once was.
Shall I try to undo the mess?
Cut my losses and start from here?
Or, start a whole new doily?

Cute story. Give that big-eyed beauty a ball of its own yarn--I've seen cats play with yarn and they seem fascinated by it. You presented a perfect image in your poem.

I know you're going to keep the cat. Gotta know what happens to the doily.

I've had those days, only it wasn't the cat...but my little terrior who enjoys playing with my yarn! I love to crochet, I am currently working on an afghan for my bedroom. I've made one table cloth, boy was it a job...I might tackle a doily after the afghan...enjoyed this much great imagery!

Sounds alot like the way it is here, but with me usually its the kitties sitting on the Bible when I am trying to write out the lesson plan, or sitting on the keyboard LOL

Kathy, you have me laughing because I can certainly relate to this. Everytime I sit down and start anything, there is always a kitty to undo what I have done. Ha, ha, ha, see I am still laughing and thoroughly enjoyed this piece. My one cat Alex even likes to help me when I am working on my puzzles. She snatches a puzzle piece and takes off at full speed with me chasing her.

Be safe,
