Nicole's Poem

Inspired by a request for a poem by Julie Donner Andersen to honor her daughter's friend who died last year on Halloween.
------------------------------------

For Nicole, My Best Friend
By Kathy Armijo

Nicole it just isn’t right.
For you to have left on Halloween night.
They told me your heart finally gave out.
You’d been sick for a lot of years.

I really don’t understand what it means – your heart gave out.
You took good care of yourself.
You ate all the right foods.
You exercised, and that was good.

I’ve heard people say that you are in heaven,
With God and His angels.
But, I’d rather have you here with me.
I can’t see you from here.
Can you see me?

You’ve been gone one whole year.
I miss being with you.
You were my bestest friend.
And you always will be.
It makes me sad when I think of you
Not being here with me.

I’m growing taller
And running faster.
I miss playing baseball with you.
It’s just not much fun.
I hit a home run.
It was just for you.

This summer was really long,
With you not being around.
You weren’t here to share my ice cream
Or giggle or watch movies or dream
About what we were going to do
This next school year.

I’m lucky I got to be your friend.
We got to be together until last Halloween.
I just wanted you to know how much I miss you
And love you.

I wish you were still here
To share stuff and
Be my friend.
When we meet in heaven,
We’ll share stories about what we’ve done.
We’ll giggle and laugh and run.
Until then …

I remember the request and also wrote a poem in this vein but I think yours is stunning with it's look through the eyes of a child and a friend.
Sweet write.

Like your picture, beautifully maturely and delicate.

This grabs the heart and pulls it out, thinking of the folks who have lost such a treasure.
May they find inner peace

It is a gift, albeit sometimes sad, to be able to stand in someone else's shoes or look through their eyes. It is an even bigger gift to find the words.

Loving tribute. Very well done.

Heartfelt tribute to Nicole; such a sad thing to have a child die, especially on a day like Hallowe'en! It doesn't make any sense, but God has His reasons behind it. God be with Julie and her daughter as they remember Nicole~
