Every society honors its live conformists, and its dead troublemakers.  ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

American Drone

Haven't you heard, it's written in stone
Plainer than truth, down to the bone
Everyone says, and everyone knows
That's what they say, and that's how it goes

Oh yeah, says who

Oh everyone knows

Huh

How did it start, what was the source
Act like you know, just nod of course
Sheep in the meadow, baa right along
Moo like a cow, chewing her corn

Oh yeah, says WHO

Hmmm

Everyone sit, just nod your head
Drink in the news, just before bed
Think like they tell you, they know it all
Domino line up, waiting to fall

Gobble like turkeys eating their grain
Peck goes your beak, chop goes your brain
Fish in the barrel, bait on the hook
So much to see, but they never look

Never a stampede, hooves have been tied
Stand still and listen, listen to lies
Promises made, dust in the wind
Beneath the gold, lies only tin

Under the feathers, we're all the same
Why do the strong, bullshit the lame
Majority rules, march like a drone
Swim in their thoughts, drown like a stone

Oooo... love the change in nom de plume. Like a new hair-do. And this is a great tribute on the day that one of your most pugnacious yet funky literary "greats" has passed on to better things. Way to go, Stormin Norman Mailer! You have just that same no-messin, larger-than-life quality to life, Darlin! love from ye olde Brit Crone xx

Hmmmm, sounds like a society that has successfully been dumbed down. How sad....

How did you do that--took all those trite expressions and came up with something powerfully meaningful, and powerful mean? Mooo like a cow? Nope. I taught mine to sing opera! (and they're good at it too) --Charlie

First time I'm reviewing you as Tania Dremas, lol! - but now, seriously, the word that comes, or rather, burst from my heart and then from my mouth is... BRAVO! Wow, Anita, this is one heck of a brilliant, much needed "slap in the face" or "brain-shaker" that I hope many, but many, many, will read! Sure it's much easier to baa-baa, be eaten, then blame the shepherd, the wolf and who knows who and what else; and sure it is not the easiest thing in the world to have one's own ideas and perspectives, to take one's own options and one's own responsibility for them, and to face the consequences... but, without that, we can't be saved - and least of all, from our lethargic, submissive, take-it-all, poor-me selves.
So... shall we link arms now... and go kick some dormant ass? LOL! ;0)
You tell'em, Lady! Love it, and love you!

I think we are way overdue for a good old house cleaning stampede. But I really wonder how many even care.

Aye, seems no bell book or candle is able to create a spell strong enough to suck us out from amidst all this indoctrinaire bruhaha that the media etc pulls out of its hat - Agh! The drone, the drone, how it deafens me!

Thought provoking as ever - who do you think you are by the way? Me?:):):):)
