Molly, The Police Dog

A sheriff at a church I served, had a police dog, Molly, who attended services at church. She was always waiting for me to greet her after services which gave a new twist you will find in the last line.

In a small church after I retired
Was a county sheriff that I admired
His police dog went with him everywhere
And whereever is sat, the dog was there
Molly was this special K9’s name
And in the county she had much fame
She laid quietly by the sheriff’s pew
Until she knew the sermon was through
After the last prayer she would walk my way
By the door where I would always say
“goodbye” to each worshipper
Otherwise, she didn’t stir
Each week she walked right up to me
And stopped and waited just to see
If I would scratch her head and say
“Molly, it’s good to see you today”
She wouldn’t move until those words
From my lips she vividly heard
As she would leave me for the week
She was the only dog who made me speak.

Ah, so touchingly sincere and pure of heart. What a wonderful dog, with such insight...

Be safe,

Awww, she made you say something each would have loved to hear "It's good to see you today." Such a valuable lesson, here. Let everyone you greet know that they 'make your day.'

God bless you. Kathy

I cringe whenever I hear anyone refer to four legged animals as "dumb"...I think there are great lessons to be learned from our furry friends...great write.

This was indeed a wonderful write, now if humans would just understand the way animals do, wouldn't it be great. Thank you Larry.
