Just let my mind wander back in time to the time I was free and single and each night was a new adventure...

Bachelorís Glory Days

By: Fee

White-washed rays of sunrays filter through the window grime

Painfully stab these tired old eyes that are running out of time

I try to free myself from last nights wrinkled, rumpled sheets

Rub knuckles into bleary eyes that seen too many late night defeats

The scent of stale perfume laced with scents of loveís juice spent

Lingers on stale smoky air as for a moment I wonder where she went

I stroke a pair of forsaken pantyhose with a run down the inside

They hang from the dresser mirror like they gave away their pride

Stagger blindly to the toilet to dribble out the last of last nightís beer

In the kitchen coffee brewed on the counter says that she was there

A number scribbled with a smiley face and name on a cereal box lid

I smile sitting there in my ragged boxer shorts like some love lost kid.

A fantastic flow to this piece, Fee. You trigger memories of my own single days with this poem. And memories cannot be purged by a ring or a piece of paper; they will always be there waiting for a reminiscing. Hugs in the new year:)

It is sweet how you mix nostalgia with a heavy dose of the present. Your writing gives this moment a grainy feel, while starkly setting up the plot and narrative. I was particularly impressed with your consistency in maintaining rhythm and rhyme throughout the piece. Good job!

Bachelor's days!!!!!!!no momma yelling "get up!" clothes decorating every piece of furniture, empty beer bottles, old Playboy magazines showing their centerfold without blushing, and that "I will call" as the girl disappears from your cave-of-freedom....thanks Fee...

Those days of youth were really fun, though I do appreciate my more settled lifestyle these days. Those days, an hour of sleep and I was good to go for another day and long night, as well as a ten-mile run. Sweet memory filled lines, Fee.
Take care,
Sherry

Oh Fee, this is a wonderful youthful memory..It is good to reflect on the past but never to dwell. We are who we are today, because of how we lived our lives..No regrets, just positive movement forward to enjoy the rest of our breath of life...
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
