What Do You See?
By Kathy Armijo

What do you see
When you look at me

Is it my dress
Fancy or such a mess

Perhaps, it is my hair
Stylish or not there

Maybe my smile captivates the air
However, the eyes may say, “I’m really not there”

If this all you see
You really don’t know me

Look beyond the exterior
There is much amour

I refuse to be anyone’s play toy
Yet, my heart is always full of joy

The sum of my experiences is who I am
I have strived to accept life’s program

Many times my heart has been broken
Yet, my faith it never did deaden

I am the sum of my experiences
I have made my choices

Some really great and others not so great
Always trying not to be anyone’s deadweight

I am one of many
Who has lived life proudly

My trials have been mine
Thankfully, God is always my lifeline

Know that I am another human
Who has traversed many a mountain

Longing for acceptance
Striving for patience

So, when you look at me
Look INSIDE me
Then, you’ll see me as I truly am

You are very right in what you say here. My favorite line is,

I have made my choices"

For people to see what is inside, we must open up. Here on the den I think we feel for each other because, mostly, we only see the inside. I'm lucky to have both sides at my access. You're beautiful inside and out.

I love this, Karen. Thank God that you truly know YOURSELF - what a gift! In my rummage bag this evening, it was a toss-up between The Seal and another poem berueing the fact that I'm NOT really known - least of all to myself - which I nearly posted instead... So, perhaps another time. But this is strong and self-confident both in execution and tone, and I deeply applaud you! Love Kate xx

When I first looked at your picture, that white hat and thoughtful look caught my attention. After reading your writings, I'm attracted to the person inside.

I see a mountain which I will never climb, a flower that I will never get, a promise that wouldn't crystalize, a beauty that will never be inside the arms of the beast...and a soul, so pure, that the mud of my world yearns for a drop of it to wash it of its sins.
Before looking inside you I didn't believe...now I do.

I understand, but at first glance it is difficult to look inside . . . Outward apperances count also . . . To some that is ALL that counts and that is sad . . .

Kathy,

I see the strength and the person that I wish I could be. Many people come and go in our lifetime. Some affect us deeply and others not. You have the manner and the personality that is so easy to love. My wife is just like you, a beautiful person inside and out. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

I see you as a beautiful person who has had many a hard time in her life. Keep on writing; it will help you heal in the long run; that's why I write. Thank GOD you have Steve in your life, to help you during your life's journey; many people (including myself) aren't that fortunate! Very well penned; brava!

The heart is what keeps us alive and the love that is in it is what makes us so special to God. Your poem is truly an inspiration for all of us to ponder, to look beyond the superficial exterior and find the gold that is within each and has made us what we are.

Dear Kathy, it is not hard to find what I see. The truth is I see your heart and your lovely soul.
The same question was asked by Jesus, when he went with his diciples in row boat. When they were surrounded by water, he asked them what do you see? Then every diciple answered differently and their were all right but no one was able to tell what he hoped that would already be able to see. Wery nice and well done, you are great, best regards to you and your husband Emile
