The dream of immortality
spliced with the pursuit of happiness
financial gain
and the cold grip of lost love

Hold these things well
I do
and not
for they are but the screws that turn
and burn
white-hot within me
and cannot be held
lest they be lost

And in that these things,
these intangibles,
cannot be all that defines me,
I waiver
on the edge of speculation
where even the periphery is blind

The light that shines
in those ever-darkening eyes
is all that I have to guide me
to mold me in this implausible journey
that I take and make
in seemingly equal measures
and it is for them that I ply my trade
and try my luck
luckless though I am
and unwise to terminal design

For those, it shall be
or come to viable passing
that I will know and name this suffering for what it is
and what it becomes
for ill or gain
law or levity
substance or sublimation

Perhaps it is the one true debt
that is owed that I can hope to make good on
and lay the eternal-infernal verity
to rest at the cloying feet of my curious nature
and offer some helpful words
to those who would hear

For in the infinite
I know little else
and can imagine little more

Were I of greater stuff
I could pass blindly
and stop asking why

Well said and so artfully displayed. Taking in and letting go, just another phase of living....

Be safe,
Karen
