My bro who after a freak fall woke up quadreplic. Is now classifed as C2 neurologically. Sustained fracture of the neck at level C4. Yet he has not shown any self pity but prays for world peace when prayers are said by the visiting clergy. He is an inspiration is the words i hear repeatedly from all those who have had the priviledge to have met John. A truly wonderful man with such a hard cross to bear. xxx i love him so much.

JOHNS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

He's my hero, my brother and a friend

And now he's on the mend

Out of ITU and High Dependency

Each day is a challenge

Says he

And it's been a while

Since i've felt happy

But i do when i see him smile

He can talk now

Though he can't breathe

entirely on his own

Rehab has become

His temporary home

And he's taken to the changes

With aplomb

He's my hero, he's my friend

He will always be my brother

And now he's on the mend

So grateful for the small things

he can do

A valuable lesson for me

And You

When life is already

too short to sign

on the dotted line

There's no guarantees

that last a lifetime

For no one knows

when that is

It's God that gives

and God that Takes

And He that should

Decide

Who dies and who Lives

And each day it felt

Like my bro

Was on death row

On Life support

I know....

And I can't describe

How hard it felt inside

To watch helplessly

His struggles

And the tear he tried

to hide

When i walked away

Out into Londons cold

grey wet rain

Not knowing if i would

Ever see him again

So many times been put

On "standby"

Too shocked to even cry

And now he's better and

the tears do fall

And i've got a permanent

Line to God

To call

And i Know he's receiving me

All the prayers you have sent

Have helped John tremendously

To heal and recover

And rediscover a new way of Life

To preserve his humour

And give me strength

To carry on

My own life

When i felt my blood drain

Along with his

It's like i was cut in half

Nothing can explain

The resonant pain

I could feel inside

watching my blood brother

with alien eyes

wondering if he could recover

such a trauma

seeing him slip into an

alternative universe

not knowing whether to pray

scream or curse

so i did it all

I questioned why

He had to fall

How and why this could

happen to someone so nice

I'd sit on the train

and hear people complain

about their lives

And i'd think to myself

how big they make these

problems seem

It was like i was sleepwalking

in a treacherous dream

I felt my heart harden

And i had to say STOP

I knew if i hadn't told myself to

I would lose compassion for

everyone including you

I wanted to scream

at their petty complaint

And say walk into accident

and emergency

See the man with no face

The amputee

The brain damaged girl

who later died

The doctors overworked

And the nurses who cried

They are all human

Saving lives

that thought once too

that they were invincible

What i am getting at

Is the Principle of

Being grateful

I never thought i could

I never thought i would

And i still am not sure i will

But if i do

All i can say is thank you

And be the best person i can.

Thanks to John and a glimpse

Into his alternative universe

I no longer see life as a curse

But a gift that is God given

I have my own earth angel now

who says he's happy.

How can that be?

It's not for me to question

this positivity

I just hope it's contagious

because i am so unhappy.

dedicated to my darling earth angel brother.

In God we Trust.
