Life or Death?

Life or Death?

I open my eyes
My heart aches
Another morning
Just like yesterday
Pain wracks my body
Anguish tortures my soul
I long for the oblivion of sleep
But that is not to be
It will be many hours
Until I can toss fitfully
There is nothing new
Instead my life is on repeat
Day after day after day
No meaning, no purpose
Just the same old thing
Staring at the unchanging walls
Nothing to stop me but pain
It is an effective jailer
A self made prison perhaps
Am I choosing life
Or just a living death?
