one poem - bit of a puzzler and seems to have different kinds of responses - from me too! thanks for reading

Us and Them

They wanted to run before they could walk,
and so, took up flying rather young.

They wanted to speak before they could talk,
and so took up silence; quite stubbornly.

When life flashes before the eyes, and it does,
the last words they want to say, are

'Make your life beautiful! Make your life profound!'

So let's get busy in the quiet, let's get busy,

one step at a time...

Deeply moving, thought provoking excellence, Nicky, well done.

This is indeed a profound piece that allows the reader to contemplate the meanings and metaphors both overt and secretly hiding between the lines. Well done Nicky.

this piece is beautiful and yet it confuses me...
i cannot work out who 'us' and 'them' are and as a result i cannot work out whether i am the one who runs before learning to walk or the one who needs to take the deathbed advice.

your second stanza reminds me of the line frm a cat stevens song "from the moment i could talk i was ordered to listen" in a backwards, word suppression kinda way.

beautiful piece =)
