VIGILS from the Office of the Dead
by Brother Bernard Seif

Openness to letting life unfold and, in a sense, dancing with it, usually resolves most mysteries sooner or later. It is the "later" part that is often the real challenge..

Royal Crush

High upon the high hill that lies just ahead,
there was a princely castellated homestead.
A beauteous girl with hair of deep and wondrous gold
sat upon a throne with riches too great to be told.
She was kind and had beautiful eyes of blue.
She ruled, in the absence of her Lord, wisely too.
Years past and she grew into a breathtaking woman.
Kings and Knights, for her hand, did vie.
But for only one man, in her heart, she did sigh.
His name was Stephan. He was gorgeous and kind.
A better-looking man would be hard to find.
His eyes were green, his hair was black as night.
He never lost a bet, much less a fight.
He was unaware of the Royal regard.
He simply did what men did. Yes, he was a retard.
He blithely went about his business each day.
While Marion, for him, did wish and pray.
Stephan’s eyes were ever on the future ahead.
He never thought about anything but a fight or a bed.
His nights were spent in untold pleasure.
He fought and loved at his leisure.
Marion sought to catch his attention and eye
but Royalty was too good for him, he couldn’t lie.
Therefore, Marion gave him up for good.
She found a better man, a chap named Robin Hood.
