YOGI BERRA THE ENDURING LEGEND

"Yogi Berra The Enduring Legend" was one of the first poems I wrote in May, 2005 when I started writting again.

The idea for this poem came when I saw an article in the paper about Yogi turning 80 years old. I have always been a fan of Yogi's, and how could you not like him in that AFLAC commercial.

This poem was also one of the first that was chosen for a poetry anthology, being picked in 2005.

Yogi Berra, he turned eighty

Character of enduring legend

Helped lead a dynasty in the fifties

A team of enduring talents and legends

The glamour homer hitting star was Mickey

The excellent pitching ace was Whitey

The field manager professor was Casey

But the anchor and leader was Yogi

Getting his turn as team manager

Guided the bronx bombers to another pennant

A seven game series losing manager

And was fired even if he did win a pennant

Launching as many famous quotes

As with his numerous swatted homeruns

Through the many years Yogi's quotes

Sayings that we will never get over

I am not a fan of baseball but you taught me some "stuff" via your words here, Stephen. Thank you. Love and peace,

You gave alot of good history about him and baseball here and did it in a poetic way. I hadn't realized he turned 80. You are right, how can you not love the AFLAC commericals, they are always so funny. Thanks for this, I feel like I am going away educated, lol.
