Inspired by Walt Hardester. Thank YOU.
God bless those who have saved more lives than have been lost.
|
Eyes rolled back, seeing nothing
but blue skies and an angel? in
the distance. Not time for you yet;
the long slide back into the caring
arms of a Medic determined not to
let you go. Funny: he and God got
the same eyes. And what the --
when did He start wearing camo?
You think you hear voices on the
double blades of a dustoff. They'll
not let you go without a fight. The
battle, theirs. You've earned your
rest. They're on point. Needlestick.
Pain dims into memory. No need to
worry with these two at your side -
Medic and God, they've got your back.

Wow, Karla! This poem, along with Walt's, needs to showcase together in publication. Very excellent, both in content and in expression. This level of writing is the best of the best. Write on!

| You've exemplified the fine line between life and death in your poem and the wonderful sense of peace as one gives himself over to the powerful life support of a "Medic". Good job. |

I swear I was a soldier in a former life as your words took me back into a moment of total darkness that was broken by a bright star-like light and the words of those around me scurrying to save my life. How brave are the soldiers who go forward knowing that this may very well be their fate. Excellent images, Karla.
Take care,
Sherry |
