My precious Mother always had a saying for everything. I must admit, I always didn't understand them back then but over the years, I figured out a few.

A Lid for Every Pot!

My mother always told me, “There’s a lid for every pot”.
I always wondered what she meant, I thought of it a lot.
I have many pots of unusual shapes and different volumes too.
With a lot of different sized lids that fit quite a few.

Was she telling me, that only one lid must fit just right?
That the lid must fit perfectly, not to loose or too tight?
I think what she was saying was if I’d look hard, I would see.
That there’s a special someone out there, someone just for me.

Mother had so many sayings that I didn’t comprehend back then.
But as I grew older, I heard those sayings, over and over again.
There was a very special someone out there that fit me perfectly.
It was thanks to Mother, who always had sayings that encouraged me.

Hi Bonnie May
It's great how the words of our Mums come back to us, even fifty years later. There surely is something in your Mum's words. Cheers! Liz

Jersey Ed crack me up! POT indeed!
Well, I will ask Bonnie, in your tale above, who is the pot and who is the lid? and don't give me one of those 8th of March Day woman lib wishes, although you will be making a lovely pot, if I may say so.

Your mother was so right Bonnie. Some cultures say a person is one half of a broken pot which demands to get its other half to be a total person, not every half of a pot but that very half which can best fit the other half. Hope you have got your other half or in Mom´s case you have the right lid with you. Smile.

Beautifully said, Bonnie, well done! Sometimes the old sayings are best.
