Twice a year, Spring and Fall, the house got a thorough (as in window-frames, radiators, cupboards, etc) cleaning. The devoted housewife's ritual was known as either Spring Housecleaning or Fall Housecleaning, and was a vastly different event than the usual "cleaning house". |

Ode to Spring Housecleaning.....
How do I clean thee?
Let me count the ways.....
I clean thy tracked-up floors
so many lovely days.
When spring begins to sigh
and birds their songs do sing,
with cleanser and a sponge,
I clean thy bathtub ring.
Outdoors my heart would be,
but home, sweet home doth call.
Alas, I cannot go outdoors
until I've cleaned it all!
Housecleaning Nursery Rhymes
Housecleaning she will go--
Housecleaning she will go--
Get rid of that dust,
It's an absolute must!
Housecleaning she will go!
Mama, be nimble!
Twinkletoes!
Mama, jump over
the vacuum hose!
Hickory, Dickory, Dock,
A mouse ran up the clock!
Mom grabbed her broom,
Mouse met his doom--
Hickory, Dickory, Dock!
Little dust balls,
Come blow your horn!
You'll all be sent packing
this early spring morn!
Where's the little wife
who vacuums the floor?
She's gone to buy Endust
down at the store!
Mama, put your apron on,
your apron on,
your apron on,
Mama, put your apron on,
We'll all clean house!
Hey, diddle, diddle!
The mop's in the middle!
Mom's scrubbing with vigor and vim!
Housecleaning's begun,
and soon will be done,
for her bucket is filled to the brim!
Happy Housecleaning, One and All!

So delightful an ode to Spring and Winter cleaning, a chore that does not really bring much delight to it, but you bring smiles....
Be always safe,

Now if we had a little music then we could clean and sing along as we do. You have a rich talent for lyricks.
Blessings and love,

| Connie, a house must get a good cleaning every now & then or all our collections & dust would overtake us. This is full of good humor & I really did enjoy it. |

| Oh did this bring back memories. All cushions would be outside on the porch to be beaten later but played with first as our fort. Combing fringe on carpet, (hated that one). Oh, the smell of a clean house, nothing like it. Thank you my sis for those wonderful memories with this wonderful and lovely write. Love you, Bonnie |
