We Lost Skeetzie!
We had a little bunny as cute as he could be.
My brother smuggled him in our house with a little help from me.
We hid him for a long time and no one knew he was there.
But one day Mother saw him and we quickly sent up a prayer.
Mother fell in love with him for she loved animals too.
She helped us keep Skeetzie hidden and not give Dad a clue.
But then one dark day Dad saw him and had a hissy fit.
“This rabbit doesn’t belong here; I don’t like it, one bit”.
But Dad could see quite clearly, that we loved this little guy.
Finally, our Dad said, “You can keep him,” we let out a sigh.
Skeetzie loved to chew on cords and watch TV all day.
In and out the litter box in between his play.
Oh, we loved this little bunny, he meant everything to us.
So when he disappeared one day, we created a big fuss.
We marched all over the neighborhood calling him by name.
We never found our Skeetzie with no one we could blame.
He used to dig under our fence and walk around to our front door.
But this time he wasn’t there, we were sickened to the core.
Would we find our Skeetzie, the chances were looking slim?
Not knowing then, for his own good, Mom and Dad got rid of him.
For weeks we searched for Skeetzie and asked everyone in town.
No one saw our Skeetzie and Skeetzie was never found.
I can still remember very well, the feelings of misery.
Losing our precious Skeetzie, hurled us in agony.
For years I thought of Skeetzie and wrote a book when I grew old.
It was my way of honoring him and to get his story told.
