Autism and David

My nephew was born with Autism. He has Asperger's syndrome and is very intelligent. He does not understand facial expressions and non-verbal communication. He does not like to be touched or hugged.

He has had a difficult time in regular school because the teachers and students don't understand his disorder. Thank God he will be finished with school this year. God is good.

Autism and David

David was a beautiful
 5 lb. baby boy
his mother’s first
 bundle of joy
she was oh so happy
 the day he was born
six months later
her heart would be torn.

Statistically, he was the one
born into an Autistic world
 one out of 94 sons
He didn’t smile
at his momma’s face
he looked straight through her
as he stared off into space.

David would get anxious
and scream so very loud
his mother couldn’t take him
into a large crowd

He didn’t speak much
 until he was two
there wasn’t much
the doctor’s could do

The doctor’s didn’t
 offer too much hope
I guess Autism
 was out of his scope.

David was the exception
 because he learned to talk
some of the children
are mute and can not walk.

Thank God for David
he is set to graduate
with his high school diploma
in the class of 2008.

High school graduation is an accomplishment to be proud of for anyone and even a greater one for a kid with Asperger's.
Congratulations to David and his family!

May he continues in the path of success and self fulfillment.
