Building a future always has a foundation.

Through innocent eyes I am watching

The world for the very first time

I’m learning by my experiences

On the ladder of knowledge I climb.

I don’t know the difference

Between good deeds and bad

I haven’t learnt about feelings

Like being happy or being sad.

But I see the images in the paper

And hear the anger in your voice

Listen to the words of bitterness

Not knowing that I have a choice.

I learn the ways that I am taught

Segregating ourselves from others

Accepting this way of mankind

To cause war between our brothers.

You forget to teach me to love

Therefore I only learn to fight

You never sing me lullabies

When you lay me down at night.

I breathe the air which is polluted

Unaware of the damage that’s done

To the natural shield around us

Which protects us from the sun.

A crumbling world around me

Full of hate and selfish acts

Man destroying all other life

A harsh reality of the facts.

My outlook seems very bleak

If we do not stop and change

With nothing left for my children

Unless the future we rearrange

Please teach me to love my neighbour

And respect all life around me

To look after our dear planet

So we can all live in harmony.

Beautiful sentiments. Like so many women, you understand the need to nurture all life and delight in its existance, unlike men, who seem happiest only when deconstructing something or creating chaos. We can thank basic human biochemistry for all of this perplexity, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean we cannot continually aspire to peace-filled greatness and the nobility of pure spiritual love that our hopes and dreams suggest are not impossible callings of the human experience! Mahalo for sharing this one with us!
