A vagabond content to dream.

    His clothes, a bit shabby,
He has holes in his shoes.
         The hat on his head
    Looks downright abused.

     He whistles an old tune,
Thought he'd set for a spell,
   Has a pocketful of pennies
         For the wishin' well,

He sits on a park bench
With that gleam in his eye,
        Just thinkin' up wishes
          His pennies can buy.

      When his pocket is empty
        He looks quite content,
With the dreams he's purchased
         For just a few cents.

         We can't live on wishes
              Or pie-in-the-sky,
   But, that vagabond dreamer
     Always seems to get by.

At first I thought how sad, but then I changed my mind. A beautiful piece of work, to remind us to treasure the simple things in life. Thank you for sharing it.

I read it twice and could actually visualize this man on the bench and started to feel a little sorry for him. But then he seemed to get by just fine. Don't know what inspired this piece but I really enjoyed it. You have a gift.

Paul is correct of course, about the rhyme and flow, but what I see here is a woman who knows how to communicate with the average Joe . . . I see here a poet who tells a stand-alone story, one you do NOT have to guess what was written after you finish it . . . I see something wonderful in "Vagabond Dreamer."

Marianna,

I love the rhyme and flow of your poem. Perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from that Vagabond. Welcome to Authors Den. Peace, Love and Blessings, Paul.

Interesting and a well observed piece of time wrapped up in thought....

Be always safe,

This is so heartwrenchingly sad, but I can feel the hope in it as well.

Beautifully done, Marianna!

Hugs,
Julie
