Wise Hearts Gentle Spirits
By La Belle Rouge

I sit in a cane chair under the oak
sunlight bright, balmy breeze
birds singing anthems of praise
green Spring has chased Winter away
four of them cuddle close on my lap
sleeping, waking only occasionally
to lazily wag their fluffed pom poms
and look innocently into my eyes with
“That” warm expression only they own
an expression that unpretentiously says,
“You are my world, please love me”
Several more lie contented at my feet
and occasionally I feel the wet warmth
of a tiny tongue sliding across an ankle

this is a magic moment of peace
Spring afternoon under a cloudless sky
a time of gratitude for simply living
a whole lap full of toy poodles who never
ask anything from me..... but my love
if I failed to feed them or hold them
they’d be restless and whine but never
fail to seek the safe comfort of my lap
or gently grace my ankle with a kiss
we understand, appreciate each other
I can’t speak "Poodle" nor they English
yet we communicate from our hearts
theirs young, frisky and robust
mine tired, slowing, but all our hearts
alive and wise in the ways of real love

Oh so cute the pups. I like the wagging tails and so glad you shared your pet family with us today. the poem is nice and says it all about your caring for the animals. I liked this one as I am a great animal lover too. Stars to you**********

If you don't do it casually, if do really look inside the eyes of the "lesser" creatures, you both will understand each other's sayings.
Bird, dog, cat...and even some humans ones.

I would love to join you for a glass of iced tea, and enjoy the company of you and your poodles. It sounds absolutely DEVINE!! The music is a perfect addition to the simple beauty of your words. Fortunately, I get to enjoy such a moment of respite with my cats.

God bless you. Kathy

Their is a silent understanding with animal and human. The animals rely on their spiritual side and some people can be at one with creatures because their senses allow them to feel deeper also.
Blessings and love,

Serenity abounds. The peace of sharing a glorious moment of weather. It all came together with the music that I had to read it twice. Great. Liz

Dogs know the art of happiness, and some men would, licking your ankles, being frisky and ro.bust..

...your heart tired and slowing???... I don't believe it!! Maybe after a pulse-racing bout of romantic activity, but not sitting so at ease in a balmy scene like this. And yet, I can fully appreciate the therapy of these pretty pooches... sometimes, looking at my retriever (who is 11 and far from slowing!) I can feel my heart almost flat-line on account of how innocently melting her companionship is. This is a lovely write of interdependence and communion between the souls of earth's inhabitants and friends. Bless you, Kate xx

Such heartwarming words, La Belle! And SO true. Who else would be so forgiving to us. The images of your words...I can clearly see your and their love. Beautiful...

Truly wonderful, La Belle. Our furry canine friends ask so little of us, and they are always there when we need them. There is nothing I like better these days than sitting by a lakeshore on a glorious spring or summer day, listening to all the glories of nature, with my four faithful dogs by my side.
