A whimsical playful poem that I have always liked, even 35 years later

I’m A Dancer

Would you believe that I’m a dancer
A Broadway success with my silver shoes
How can you deny that I won’t be a TV star
With my own variety show on Tuesday nights
They will all know me as an entertainer
I will dance into your hearts with my golden smile
And you can read about me in a Hollywood gossip page
Yes, everywhere you look you will see my name in lights!
Go away you dreamer
I’ve seen your type on all the crossroads
They will know you as nobody
Everywhere I look I’ll see a million just like you
Would you believe that I’m a politician
A Nobel Peace Prize winner with my great orations
How can you deny that I won’t be President
With my sweeping majorities and my own reforms
They will know me as a statesman
I will negotiate a better life for all with my golden words
And you will see my picture on the cover of Newsweek
Yes, throughout the country you’ll see people who’ll vote for me!
Go away you dreamer
I’ve seen your type on all the crossroads
They will know you as nobody
Everywhere I look I’ll see a million just like you!
Would you believe that I’m an individual
An idealist with my great capacity to imagine
How can you deny that I do hope and wish
With all the talents and skills heredity has given me
They will know me as a man
I will try to succeed with my golden thoughts
And you can watch me go ahead of you in reaching goals

Yes, everywhere I look I see failures like you!

Love this; it reminds me of a Carl Jung quote that I have posted here above my computer - "to be normal is the ideal aim of the unsuccessful."

I've written about being restrained/tethered by the notions of practicality/realism/others' expectations/the norm. I prefer to ride upon the wings of my dreams.
