This is one of my first poems. I think that back then I must have thought that the Galapagos Islands were around Greece.

The Galipalagos Ferry

The Galipalagos ferry boat sinks at noon
Forty-one screaming Greeks’ lives flash by
In the city of Athens the banners fly at half
Zeus has forsaken the land
While Apollo soars to the moon.
Twenty-three black robed widows commit suicide
In the hope of reunion with their husbands
Who the sea has claimed for society
Zeus has forsaken the land
While Apollo soars to the moon.
Sixty-three orphaned children face starvation
As society refuses to comfort their tears
Sixty-three coffins are lowered into the earth
Zeus has forsaken the land
While Apollo soars to the moon.
The Galipalagos Ferry Company goes out of business
Forty-nine men forced to look for work
Thirty-three end their dreams in a bottle
Zeus has forsaken the land
While Apollo soars to the moon.
Forty families forced to evacuate their homes
Start vagabonding on the roads in search of hope
Seventy-three among them face the creator
Zeus has forsaken the land
While Apollo soars to the moon
The Galipalagos Ferry boat sinks at noon.
